You get a total score from 400 to 1600, built from two section scores of 200–800 each — one for Reading & Writing, one for Math. Wrong answers cost nothing beyond the point you didn't earn, so there's never a reason to leave a question blank, and the difficulty of the second module you were routed to is already accounted for in the final number. The two section scores are simply added together. Reading & Writing can range from 200 to 800, Math can range from 200 to 800, and the total lands somewhere between 400 and 1600. There is no separate essay score — the essay was retired before the test went digital. There's no wrong-answer penalty on the digital SAT. Nothing is subtracted for a miss, which means an educated guess is always mathematically better than a blank. Practically: if a question is beating you, eliminate what you can, pick something, flag it, and move on. Because the test is adaptive, raw questions-correct doesn't translate directly into a score. The scoring model knows whether you were routed into the harder or easier second module in each section, and it weighs performance accordingly — which is why two students with the same number correct can end up with different scores, and why chasing a raw-count target isn't a meaningful goal.
